MAS for the Masses
Our Mission
To teach Mexican American Studies across generations by connecting our history, culture, and experiences to local and global narratives.

Our Story
Founded by Moni Avila in the summer of 2015, MAS for the Masses began as a community-based effort to create opportunities for youth to learn about Mexican American history, culture, and ancestry outside of the traditional classroom.
Recognizing a gap in access to culturally relevant education, Moni brought together artists, educators, professors, community leaders, public figures, and professionals to share their knowledge and experiences through workshops and community learning.
Today, MAS for the Masses continues to make Mexican American Studies accessible to people of all ages. Through education, cultural programming, community conversations, and partnerships, we connect history and scholarship with lived experience and community knowledge. Our work honors the knowledge that already exists within our families and neighborhoods while creating opportunities for new generations to better understand their history, culture, and place within the broader American story.
