Professional Development &

Community Impact

Moni Avila believes that investing in people is one of the most effective ways to strengthen organizations and communities. Throughout her leadership with the Community Health Worker Hub, she designed and coordinated professional development opportunities that equipped Community Health Workers and other frontline professionals with practical knowledge, fostered cross-sector collaboration, and expanded access to continuing education and professional development.

From August 2023 through September 2025, Moni coordinated 77 trainings and professional development opportunities, generating 2,677 documented participant attendances among Community Health Workers and frontline professionals and awarding 6,338.5 continuing education and professional development hours. Attendance reflects participation across learning opportunities and may include individuals who participated in more than one training or event.

Through intentional collaboration with 26 community organizations, she helped leverage more than $505,957 in direct and in-kind support for workforce and professional development. Partners contributed expertise, training, meeting space, educational resources, scholarships, participant support, and other resources that expanded access while reducing costs.

Her work included both certified continuing education and broader professional development programming designed to respond to emerging workforce and community needs, including public health, emergency preparedness, leadership, community engagement, cultural responsiveness, violence prevention, community resilience, and professional growth.

During Fiscal Year 2025, Moni coordinated 38 trainings and professional development events, generating 709 participant attendances, including 231 unique participants, and awarding 5,169 continuing education and professional development hours.

Of those initiatives, 26 non-certified professional development events generated 525 participant attendances and provided 4,328 professional development hours. Learning opportunities included reproductive justice, Community Health Worker reentry journeys, community history and place-based learning, violence prevention, community leadership development, mental health, and other culturally responsive topics designed to strengthen workforce knowledge, connection, and community engagement.

Moni also coordinated 12 certified continuing education trainings, generating 184 participant attendances and 841 certified continuing education hours. Certified learning opportunities included data and evaluation literacy, climate justice, emergency preparedness, and community storytelling, providing practical skills participants could apply within their organizations and communities.

The impact extended beyond attendance and continuing education hours. Participants described increased knowledge, stronger communication skills, greater confidence, expanded professional networks, improved resource navigation, and opportunities to apply learning in their day-to-day community work. Professional development was intentionally paired with peer learning, credentialing support, resource sharing, and cross-sector collaboration to strengthen both individual practitioners and the broader workforce infrastructure supporting them.
